A Winter Staycation at The Eliza Jane

Baby, it’s cold outside. The cooler months are the perfect time to check into one of our city’s cutest new hotels for a staycation. Rates are usually lower this time of year, beautiful holiday decorations adorn hotel lobbies, and there’s no better time to snuggle up in a cozy hotel bed for the weekend .

We recently treated ourselves to a staycation at The Eliza Jane. The CBD’s newest hotel is part of the Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. Situated perfectly, the hotel is just two blocks from the French Quarter and all that downtown has to offer without being right in the hustle and bustle. It features 196 guest rooms and 50 suites as well as a charming French restaurant, chic cocktail bar and other onsite amenities such as a fitness center and meeting spaces.

The hotel is perfect for a girl’s weekend. It’s everything femme from the pink and gold accents to being named for Eliza Jane Nicholson, publisher of The Daily Picayune and the first woman to own a major newspaper in the U.S.

Friday

We checked into the hotel Friday evening and headed to the Press Room Bar in the lobby for pre-dinner cocktails.

For dinner, we headed to Restaurant August, just about a two minute walk from the hotel. Neither of us had ever been to the award-winning restaurant before and to say we were excited is an understatement.

Known for their degustation menu, we each opted for this tasting menu with wine pairings and what followed was arguably the most memorable culinary experience of our lives. Really, the entire experience was one to remember. The royal treatment is the standard at August and we left feeling like two stuffed little princesses.

Saturday

Let’s just say we weren’t at our best when we woke up Saturday, but luckily we had time to relax in our big cozy beds for the morning. Once the wine headache subdued, we headed to The Daily Beet to revive ourselves with some much needed nutrition. We swear by the Watermelon Ginger juice for hangovers and the yummy avocado toast makes the perfect brunch when you’ve had the biggest meal of your life the night before.

After we finished and photographed our #basic avo toast, we headed to Mia Bella, for a little pampering. The adorable beauty lounge is located in the CBD and offers tons of services from manis and pedis to blowouts and lash extensions. Their technicians make sure your mani is perfect every single time.

Hangovers cured, we headed to Seven Three Distilling to try out their fall/winter cocktail menu. The menu highlights the essence of the Distillery’s six signature spirits.  If you haven’t been to Seven Three, you’ve got to check it out for a tour and tasting! From Marigny Moonshine to St. Roch Vodka to Irish Channel Whiskey, Seven Three Distilling is a celebration of Nola – a city written chapter by chapter across her 73 neighborhoods.

For dinner, we were back at the hotel to try their restaurant, Couvant. The French brasserie is everything New Orleans was missing in a modern French restaurant. From Foie Gras to a beef short rib to mussels, everything was melt in your mouth delicious. There’s a reason was named Eater’s most gorgeous eatery of the year. The beautiful interior features a beautiful oak bar as it’s center piece, and mosaic tiling.

Sunday

We were so obsessed with Couvant Saturday night that we actually headed back for brunch in the morning. There’s nothing better than feeling like you are brunching in Paris!
