So recently we’ve had quite the obsession with jalapeño margaritas. I mean, we are always down to drinks margs, but add a kick to them and we can’t get enough.
Ok, so we weren’t going to tell anyone this, but we recently discovered this super cute hidden gem in the French Quarter called Cuñada with the literal best jalapeño margaritas we have ever had. Shhhhh… keep it on the DL people. Like, go support them, but just don’t tell everyone, ya know? We couldn’t stop thinking about these so we just had to try and re-create them poolside (dinner-side, really as any side 😂), and thought we would share them with you just in time for Cinco de Mayo!
Ingredients & Tools
This recipe makes 2, but can easily be converted into larger batches!
- 2 shots tequila – we really like Altos as an inexpensive, tasty option. We actually discovered it at their Tales of the Cocktail party last year!
- 4 limes, juiced
- 1 orange, juiced
- Big Easy Bucha Satsuma – you can use this in addition to or as a replacement for the orange juice. Or, just use a splash of O.J., or triple sec to make them stronger. We had the kombucha in our fridge, and really liked that it added a little fizz. If you have soda water laying around, you can add a splash of that for a sparkle as well!
- 1 Jalapeño
- Simple syrup – you can buy pre-made or make it easily at home by boiling equal parts sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved
- Cocktail Shaker
- Shot glass
- Margarita glasses!
First you’re going to want to cut up the jalapeño. We recommend de-seeding about half of them to take the heat down a notch, but not all the way 😉
Measure the tequila and pour it into a pitcher, and add the jalapeños. The longer you soak them in the tequila, the spicier your mix will be so keep that in mind depending on the spice level you are looking for. We like to soak ours for about 30 minutes, but somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes does the trick!
While your tequila is soaking, juice the limes and the orange to make a juice mixture. Once your tequila is ready, add ice to a cocktail shaker, the tequila and juice mix and shake it up!
Salt your glasses, and then pour the margs in. This is when you will top with a splash of the kombucha or sparkling water. Garnish with extra jalapeños, and enjoy!
