If you’ve ever been to the French Quarter in New Orleans, you know that balconies are a big component of the architectural style of the city. Throughout Bourbon Street and beyond, you can see beautiful wrought iron balconies which are sometimes decorated with Mardi Gras beads. During Carnival season, and for special events, balconies are among the most coveted places to catch parades and letting the good times roll.
Balconies can be fun even after Mardi Gras though, throughout the French Quarter, you’re able to rent out these balconies and have private parties for you and your best babes and bros. During Memorial Weekend, we threw a Cuban-inspired birthday party at a Bourbon Balcony. There was an open bar, colorful outfits, beads and we had the best #daydrinking Saturday ever.
Want to throw your own balcony party for a special celebration or NOLA Bachelorette? Here’s how we did it,
The Guest List
The size of your party will determine the type of balcony you need, and the total cost of your balcony party. If you have an unlimited budget then this might not matter, but for those of us who ball on a budget you need at least need a max number of guests before booking!
A simple Facebook invite (with a badass event description) is the perfect way to alerting the guest list about the party. For this type of party, be sure to remind guests to RSVP or regretfully decline so you can have an accurate headcount. None of that “Maybe Attending” BS shall be tolerated 😂😂😂
Reserve Your Bourbon Balcony
Contact Bourbon Balconies as soon as possible to ensure they have availability for your party. Badass Babe, Ella Fountain, manages this company and she’s awesome to work with. From giving you the best balcony options, to giving you the best party advice & even moral support, you’ll have a great time even just planning the party!
For our party, we booked the 409 Bourbon Street Balcony. It was way bigger than we ever imagined and most importantly, it was right above a Willie’s Chicken Shack – snacks were needed after 3 hours of an open bar.
Come Up With A Theme
You know we love a good themed party, and any excuse to dress up in costumes. When picking the theme of a party, be as creative as possible – while taking into consideration the time of year. Trust us, no one wants to dress up in gowns and tuxedos in the middle of a NOLA Summer.
We went with a Cuban theme for this birthday party, as the birthday bro loves rum, the beach and bright colors.
The Perfect Decor and Swag
You can’t ever be too #Extra with your decor and swag. Get customized koozies, fab drinkware, and everything that will make your party instaworthy.
Have A Blast
Planning a party can get stressful – certain guests can sometimes even create unnecessary drama for you. But at the end of the day, when you’re all dressed up, the balcony is fully decked out with decorations, you have a drink in your hand and your besties around, nothing can go wrong. Don’t let the stress of planning get to you and have an amazing time!
PS: Take photos early in the game – when you’re having fun, you tend to forget to take pretty photos of the whole group 🙁 Happens to the best of us
Is it time for another balcony party yet?
Special thanks to Bourbon Balconies and all of their staff for being so awesome during our Memorial Weekend party.
