Well 2016 is finally wrapping up and if you’ve had a long and tiring year, then prepare to feel energized, excited and ecstatic for 2017 by getting a headstart on the holidays. Babes are all about having fun and the holiday season is one of our favorite times of the year. Think about it, you usually get a few days off work, all your friends and family are in town, and when you live in New Orleans, there are so many events and activities to help you get the most yuletide YOLO possible!
This one is a classic. For 30 years now, Celebration in the Oaks is how you know that the holiday season has arrived. Every year in City Park there is a spectacle of lights and holiday cheer. Beautiful light installations throughout the park and Botanical Garden. This is the perfect spot for a holiday date, a family outing, or grabbing some hot chocolate from Morning Call and strolling with friends. The trees are bestrewn with dazzling lights and you can’t miss the Cajun Night Before Christmas. Celebration in the Oaks begins on Friday, December 2nd, be sure to get in line at least an hour before it closes or you can’t get tickets!
What New Orleans babe doesn’t love a good bar crawl? Imagine hundreds of people “donning their gay apparel” and heading out to some of the CBD/Warehouse District’s favorite bars and music venues. You begin at the “South Pole” at Manning’s and “run” to Rusty Nail then to Generations Hall for a big party, costume contests, music and drinks! Running of the Santa’s takes place on December 17th. Be sure to get your tickets all you lil’ reindeer!
The Nutcracker is a holiday favorite. The Nutcracker Ballet is a German fairytale that tells the story of a little girl who is taken to a magical world with her favorite holiday gift. Enjoy the beauty of the ballet in the decadent Saenger Theater or the Orpheum with a lovely date or for a girls’ weekend. It really is absolutely breathtaking and takes you back to being a kid and wishing for a Sugarplum Fairy of your own. Tickets are on sale now at both theaters.
Now you know New Orleans wouldn’t celebrate any holiday without a parade! The Krewe of Jingle parade rolls through Canal Street on December 5th so be sure to be there with your own krewe to catch throws and get into the holiday spirit, the NOLA way!
So you’ve done the bar crawl and parading, let’s class it up shall we, babes? Afternoon tea is available all year round at The Windsor Court Hotel in the CBD but it is even more special during the holiday season. The Salon at Windsor Court is beautifully decorated with poinsettias, trees and lights. Enjoy tea sandwiches, warm holiday drinks, and feeling classy for a change.
Those are just a few of our suggestions for our favorite ways to get excited for the holiday season in New Orleans. The best part about living in this city is that there is always something to do, so share your favorite holiday fun in the comments below!
