A Babes Guide to Cinco De Drinko in New Orleans

A good friend of ours once told us “you girls really love tacos” and he wasn’t lying. Some of our favorite things happen to be tacos (or taceauxs as we like to call them) and margaritas. I mean what babe doesn’t love these two things?

As good taco lovers, we have tried many tacos and margaritas in the city of New Orleans. It’s Cinco De Mayo so we thought we’d share some of our favorites for Mexican cuisine where you may want to consider celebrating!

Del Fuego

4518 Magazine St.

What stands out to Babes & Beignets about Del Fuego is their margaritas. You can taste the freshness of their margs and it’s evident that they aren’t using any of those pre-made mixes. You don’t want to miss one particularly refreshing margarita they offer: the Los Tres Amigos, made with Casamigos Blanco tequila, fresh watermelon & cucumber juice, mint simple syrup & lime juice. Yum!

The loaded guacamole is worth a try too! You don’t have to get it loaded but why wouldn’t you?!? It comes topped with chicharrones, queso cotija, diced tomato, roasted poblanos, pickled onion, pumpkin seeds, jalapeños, bacon and pomegranate seeds.

Taceaux Loceaux

These are hands down our favorite taceauxs in the city. One of our babes spent her college years in San Antonio, so she knows authentic Mexican when she tastes it, and swears the tacos from this truck are comparable.

If you’re too busy or don’t feel up to the whole Cinco De Mayo, sombrero wearing charade, seek out the Taceaux Loceaux (TL) truck. They are good about updating their location on Instagram and Twitter.

Babes fact: One of our babes is a vegetarian and TL always offers a selection of delicious meatless options.

La Casita

634 Julia St.

This gem is a bit hidden in the Warehouse District on Julia St. It’s adorable little patio is one of the things that make it worth a visit this Cinco De Mayo. The patio art made by a local artist is actually made with sound absorbent materials making the outdoor courtyard seating particularly peaceful. They will be offering several special items this Cinco De Mayo in addition to their regular menu.

Can you say Happy Hour? Araña has one of our favorite Mexican happy hours in the city. If you’re looking for a chic Mexican experience with a moderate price tag, Araña (during happy hour) is your place. Let’s just say all you need is one of their champagne margaritas and a salsa sampler to want to scream Ole! All tacos and margaritas (even pitchers) are half price during happy hour.

Velvet Cactus

6300 Argonne Blvd.

The Velvet Cactus is an amazing place for tacos and margaritas outside of our usual Uptown/CBD area. Their awesome Margarita Happy Hour specials are reason enough to visit this Lakeview restaurant (Babes tip: 2×1 on the rocks or frozen house margaritas on Wednesdays!)

They go all out for their Cinco De Mayo celebrations with live music this evening and the rest of the weekend! Did we mention the unlimited free chips and salsa?

We hope you enjoyed our top picks for taceauxs and margaritas! Get out after work and enjoy Cinco De Mayo NOLA style. What are your favorites? Let us know in the comments!
