Babes Guide to St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New Orleans

Here we are trying to detox from Mardi Gras & the parade craziness, and then St Patrick’s Day rolls around. #TheNOLAStruggleisReal

Even though we’re limiting our alcohol intake in March, as true NOLA Babes, we’ll be heading out to Magazine Street this Saturday (March 11) dressed in green to celebrate this fabulous Irish holiday.

Since the beginning of Babes & Beignets, we’ve been updating y’all year after year on how to make the best out of this super fun NOLA tradition. Behold our St. Patrick’s Day Parade Guide for 2017,

Up Your Pregame Game

St Patrick's Day NOLA

Some of us are #blessed with living close to this particular parade route, so a parade pregame is always mandatory. Up your game with green cocktails & shots, and if you’re hosting an early morning party, make a few green bites for your guests as well.

Last year our pregame included:

  • Green & Orange Jell-O Shots, get the recipe here
  • Green-mosas, just add a drop of green food coloring to your regular mimosas
  • Homemade Rumchata Shots
  • Green Belgian Waffles

Don’t Get Pinched

You have to dress in green, duh! If you’re really serious about your squad’s St Patrick’s Day look, get matching tees and accessories at a local shop. A few of our favorite places to shop for outfits are:

Head Out To Magazine Street

After you’re done pregaming with the Krewe, head out to enjoy the green beer and dranks on Magazine. All the bars and restaurants will be open and waiting for you with their St Paddy’s day specials.

Our favorite spots to watch the parade and keep partying are:

  • Bulldog Uptown, 3236 Magazine St
  • Tracey’s, 2604 Magazine St
  • Ms Mae’s, 4336 Magazine St

These will all be PACKED, so don’t head out too late!

#BabesTip – bring cash. Although lots of these bars normally take cards, during events like these they tend to only take cash. And if you run out, head to Walgreens on Magazine & Pleasant, they have an ATM & also give cash back.

Don’t Forget To Eat

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is like a Cinco De Drinko times a hundred. Expect to drink a lot, and get more than tipsy. If you’re trying to avoid being the first Babe to call it quits, eat some grub! Magazine Street has some of the best food in the city, here’s a few of our favorite {drunk eating} options along the parade route:

Catch A Cabbage

Yep. You read that right. The most “coveted” throw on the St Patrick’s Day Parade is a cabbage. You should definitely try to catch one (#doitfortheInsta), or at least try not to get hit by one. It ain’t pretty.

Catch y’all on the Parade Route this Saturday! Stay lucky, Babes.

XOXO
