Your New Orleans Fall Bucket List

Eat a Parkway Thanksgiving poboy

This famous seasonal poboy from Parkway Bakery & Tavern comes back every fall, and we are embarrassed to admit we have yet to try it. The sandwich combines all of the thanksgiving leftover staples: roast turkey layered with cornbread dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. OK, we know this monstrosity sounds borderline disgusting, but we have to try it, ok?!? And, you should too! You can get one of these suckers every Wednesday in November. There will be a line, but it will be worth it.

Pretend to care about a football game

Tailgating and football are the epitome of fall in the South. If you haven’t done so yet, rally your babes and pretend to care about football for a day. You don’t have to go to an actual game, but throw on your best Saints or LSU gear, and go tailgating or to a sports bar, drink a few beers, and say “geaux” at least once. We promise you won’t regret it!

Go for a hike at Tunica Hills

Tunica Hills is a hidden gem just about a two hour drive away that feels like another world. It’s the perfect day trip for when your feeling outdoorsy, and the cooler weather that fall brings is the best time to hit it up. Pack a lunch, hike around, and take some super ‘grammable pics with tiny waterfalls. If you’re feeling extremely adventurous, you can even camp there for the night.

Warm up with all the gumbo at Treme Gumbo Festival

Whether you’re a nola native or transplant, every New Orleans babe loves gumbo. The question is whether you’re a seafood or chicken & andouille girl. Well, you’re in luck because at Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival there will be so much gumbo goodness to choose from. Not to mention, there will be live music all weekend long. There’s nothing better than warming up with a hot cup of gumbo on a cool fall afternoon while listening to some of our city’s best local talent. The fest will be at Louis Armstrong Park on November 18th and 19th.

Attend a fall concert at Paradigm Gardens

Paradigm Gardens is a Central City oasis reminiscent of a bohemian garden party. There’s a few more dinners left in their fall concert series. Each one features a locally sourced menu prepared on their wood-fired oven and grill, brews on tap from Courtyard Brewery, a paired cocktail made with Cathead vodka, and a Two Girls One Shuck mobile oyster bar. With each concert having a better restaurant lineup than the next, we’re just having trouble choosing which one to go to. #NolaProbs 😩

Get your fill of Oysters

Rumor has it, that the best months for Gulf oysters are those ending in “R.” That means we are halfway through the best of oyster season so we are going to make it a point to get our fill of oysters this fall. Check out some of our favorite places to get ’em here.

Go on a corny date to Celebration in the Oaks

Ok, between the choo choo train, and light up santa everywhere, we know it’s corny. But, it can be a super cute date. Bring some mini horchata bottles to spike your hot chocolate, and snag a kiss under one of the park’s beautiful lit up oak trees.

If we can check at least five of these off our list this fall, we’ll be satisfied! Let us know what’s on your fall bucket list in the comments.

XOXO
