Your Next Happy Hour Destination: DTB

One of the season’s most highly anticipated new NOLA restaurants, DTB, opened on Oak Street less than a month ago. DTB, which stands for Down the Bayou, is the latest hotspot for coastal Cajun cuisine and a fabulous bar scene. It’s the perfect spot for happy hour with your babes or a even a first date!

DTB New Orleans
DTB brings the old bayou country to the city, combining rustic and natural elements with modern décor.

Co-Owners Jacob Naquin and Chef Carl Schaubhut –who grew up on Bayou Dularge and Des Allemands respectively –  created an inventive and approachable concept based on their Louisiana roots. The menu at DTB, developed by Schaubhut and Chef de Cuisine Jacob Hammel, focuses on modern takes of Southern Louisiana’s coastal cuisine, recreating classic dishes with a creative twist!

Here’s what you should get when you visit DTB for happy hour,

Because happy hour = drinks, duh! Beverage Director Lu Brow created a bar program that perfectly complements the Chefs’ s menu and focus on creative concoctions using Louisiana ingredients. These were some of our favorite drinks,

By far our favorite cocktail: Saltwater – Cathead vodka, pamplemousse, basil, pink peppercorn syrup + himalayan salt

Fogerty Cocktail (right) – Buffalo Trace Bourbon, DTB peach shrub, citrus + fresh peaches

Chica – Del Maguey Vida mezcal, peychaud’s aperitif, passion fruit, tiki bitters

We also loved the Fire on the Bayou – Cathead vodka infused with DTB pepper jelly, lillet + citrus. served with a draft pony of your choice. We drank it too quickly and forgot to photograph it 🙁

The sociables at DTB are the perfect sized starters, and part of their $5 happy hour menu! These are all meant to be shared and mix n’ matched.

Mushroom Boudin Balls (surprise : they are vegan!) These are a doppelgänger of the classic but utilize three types of mushrooms, charred eggplant, and Louisiana jasmine rice, served with a smoked tofu mayo and collard pickles.

We also got a preview of the of brisket stuffed Cajun peppers. Look out for these on the menu when you go to DTB.

We didn’t have dessert this time around. Shame on us because they look absolutely delicious, especially the Ice Cream Sandwich. The menu features 3 nightcaps: Banana Toffee Cake with banana pudding, meringue, peanuts and sesame; Ice Cream Sandwich with gateau de sirop, creole cream cheese ice cream and pecans; and Seasonal Hand Pie with bouillie custard and candied jalapeño.

There you have it, Babes. Spice up your happy hour game and head to DTB this week.
